OLPC project and the producer of hybrid screens Pixel Qi signed an agreement on cooperation in screens for laptops.

Pixel Qi is known for its very interesting concept hybrid screen, which can be a standard LCD, and electronic ink. User can switch the mode, depending on the lighting or workflow. Such a screen was installed on the tablet Adam from Notion Ink. Recently, OLPC began optionally install such screens on their laptops with the same name.

Under the agreement, OLPC gets the right to use all the technology of Pixel Qi, including over 70 patents. Pixel Qi, in turn, receives the right to use the technology of dual-mode display (indoor and outdoor), used in the model OLPC XO.

Company Pixel Qi announced the release of the hybrid screen for laptops, combining traditional LCD technology with electronic paper. Its main feature is that you can install it yourself. In its official blog, the company advised that these screens were tested in Nigeria in the program One Laptop Per Child, and the 11-year-old girls themselves were replaced in their laptop screens for new staff from Pixel Qi. The company explained that it was "only a little more difficult than to change a light bulb": you have to unscrew a few screws, remove the frame, remove the display and the staff put in its place a new one. All this is doing for five minutes.

Sales displays Pixel Qi will appear in the spring. In addition, they will also be installed on a tablet from Adam Notion Ink.
