Statistical Quantcast company released data for January, which suggests that in North America, 10,9% of the audience the Internet works in Mac OS X, while last year their number has nearly tripled (to 29.4%). The positions of Windows declined slightly (by 3,8%), although still high – 86,8%.
Meanwhile, analysts note that the share of Windows growing steadily the last three months of last year, when the market came Windows 7. But in January, things have deteriorated a bit over Microsoft, and Apple in this period sold 3.36 million of its "Mac".
In the period from December to January the proportion of Mac OS X has grown by 7%, and quarterly growth was 5.2%. Proportion of Windows for the month and quarter were up 0.9%.
The dominant version of Mac OS X is 10.5 Leopard: in January it was set to 52,1% of all owners of Mac. However, the proportion of 10.6 Snow Leopard is growing rapidly, now it is 27,3%. (Incidentally, the debut of "Barca" in August last year was twice as successful "Leopard" and four times – "Tiger.") 17.2% Mac users, go to the Internet with Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, and another 3.4% used in earlier versions of the Mac OS.
In the birthplace of the most popular version of Windows in January was XP: it used 51,8% of visitors online. In January, its share even increased because of increasing sales of netbooks. Vista is installed on 37.4% of computers connected Windows, Windows 7 – at 10,2%.
The largest growth was observed on mobile devices: in January Quantcast documented increase in the proportion of mobile devices in the overall Internet audience in 123.8% in terms of annual. However, even with such impressive growth of the overall proportion of mobile devices is only 1,3%.
