European Union demands to toughen the fight against child pornography on the Internet
Child pornography – is not freedom of speech, but a serious crime, European Commissioner for Internal Affairs Cecilia Malmstrom (Cecilia Malmstrom) at a press conference. The official did not merely voiced truisms, and proposed concrete measures to more effectively combat this scourge.
In particular, it proposed to increase penalties for both the dissemination of pornography on the Internet, and for "off-line" of the crime in this area, such as pedophilia and child trafficking. The Commissioner has proposed to introduce rules requiring national governments of EU countries to block access to all sites with child pornography, including even those that are located outside the EU.
According to Malmstrom, we are now seeing the growth of certain types of sexual crimes and simultaneously increase the number of sites with child pornography . Every day on the internet appears about 200 new pictures of this kind.
The Commissioner calls attention to new kinds of abuse of children, such as the seduction of children through the Internet and various kinds of video chats.
Now to discuss the proposed measures should be ministers and legislators are 27 EU states.
