U.S. cities are lining up for Google Fiber

Palo Alto, Seattle and up to 16 cities in Utah have expressed interest in participating in the Google Fiber, in which the Internet giant will hold a house of ordinary Americans fiber optic network with a bandwidth of 1 Gbps. Most municipalities have confirmed that they have all the necessary technical capabilities to implement this initiative.

Similar projects were undertaken in the past (for example, last year it tried to make the company Axia in Palo Alto), but each time something prevented: either financial or political problems. In other countries already operate high-speed line (eg in Sweden), but in North America, they are relatively rare.

Google will deploy its own fiber optic network

Google announced plans to create its own fiber-optic broadband network. The company said that they do not like the possibility of existing networks and new network from Google will have the bandwidth to 1 Gbps.

Now Google only talk about the pilot project, in which the fiber will be held at the house about 500 thousand families in several U.S. cities. In Google they want to test the capabilities of its network, and then decide what to do next. The company does not preclude the creation of Web services, a new type, specifically designed for high-speed highways.
