Moscow's 3G network can operate in a range of GSM
Company VimpelCom and Radio Research Institute on behalf of Gokomissii for Radio held a series of tests showed that the Moscow UMTS-network may be functioning correctly in the range of 900/1800 MHz, that is the same, which employs the traditional GSM-network.
GRKCH back in March last year, has asked mobile operators to find out whether the 2G-and 3G-equipment to operate in a common band. With a positive test result, operators could save considerably: for the 900 MHz band requires 3-4 times fewer base stations than for the 2.1 GHz band in which the "big three" runs from December last year.
However, Vedomosti quoted a source in MegaFon specifies that the use of 3G-networks in this range is required to release a number of frequencies. In particular, it will have to make in other frequency voice traffic, and 900 MHz for releasing 3G .
Now operators perform tests on the new frequencies. MTS is to complete all tests in May, "Megaphone" – only the end of the year.
