Cellular operators have published the first results of operation of mobile communications of third generation. The first such network in Moscow, launched MTS and Vimpelcom (Beeline), this was respectively 28 and 29 December last year. Press office MTS Vedomosti reported that the segments of the network, where communication 2G and 3G operation at the same time, total traffic has increased two-to three-fold when compared with the period before the emergence of 3G. As of January 15, the Moscow division of MTS has 250 base stations within the Moscow Ring Road.

The press service of VimpelCom also reported an increase in traffic in 2,5-3 times over the past two weeks of January. The number of stations in VimpelCom not named, but mentioned that they have a license to 1000 stations.

Megafon launched its 3G network is a little earlier, on 14 December last year. This company provided data for the last quarter of 2009: the proportion of 3G in the general traffic of the operator was 20%, while total traffic has increased more than twice.
